NOW HIRING! Goodwill TalentBridge has partnered with an association in the Chicagoland area, near O’Hare, who is actively seeking an experienced Staff Attorney to join their team. In this role, you will support the General Counsel and serve as the primary staff support for the Commission on Professional Conduct while providing legal advice to various departments.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing legal review for in-house matters to various departments (HR, Marketing and Communications, Meetings & Exhibits, and Continuing Education)
  • Providing support and advising on human resources matters including adherence to applicable labor laws, reviewing and updating employment policies and handbooks, legal issues related to hiring, terminations, employee classifications, and benefits
  • Delivering legal guidance on workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, internal complaints, grievances, and employee relations
  • Serving as the primary support staff to the Commission on Professional Conduct
  • Monitoring state board disciplinary actions
  • Preparation of quarterly meeting materials, minutes and board reports, and preparing action items from meeting decisions
  • Reviewing legal contracts
  • Assisting General Counsel with issues from dental and medical boards, legislative and regulatory positions, organizational and governance policies, and other areas of the dental profession
  • Assisting General Counsel with issues relevant to the specialty, including scope of practice, licensing, and communicating with the public
  • Supporting legal aspects of the organization’s advocacy efforts
  • Providing comprehensive legal support for corporate governance
  • Risk management
  • Assisting with intellectual property matters, trademark searches, USPTO registrations, copyright protection, and cease and desist letters
  • Drafting and maintaining documentation
  • Providing proactive legal education and compliance updates through staff training and continuous monitoring of legal trends impacting the organization

 

Requirements:

Level of Experience Required

  • Juris Doctorate with Illinois licensure
  • 2+ years of relevant legal experience within a nonprofit, association, or corporate environment
  • Knowledge of nonprofit/association law, corporate governance, contracts, employment law, and risk management
  • Ability to balance legal risk with organizational needs while working independently and cross-functionally amongst teams
  • Proficiency with legal software and systems
