Goodwill TalentBridge, along with our client, is recruiting for a Sustaining Engineer to work in the Chicago, IL area.


The individual fulfilling this role will be responsible for developing, improving, and troubleshooting processes to manufacture insert over-molded rubber components and assemblies.

  • Develop robust statistically capable molding processes utilizing DOE, Lean Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement, and other appropriate methods to establish processing windows and controls.
  • Knowledge of thermoset elastomer molding required.
  • Identify and execute cost saving projects.
  • Trouble shoot and correct production process problems at the root cause.
  • Identify and create complete operator friendly work instructions and train production employees as needed to insure compliance.
  • Communicate and work with customers on new products and improvements.
  • Identify tooling needs and manage design, fabrication, and qualification of new and revised tools using outside suppliers in a manner consistent with our QMS.
  • Manage sample and pilot builds with operations and document process capability and qualification.
  • Manage new tooling design and build, replacement, and repairs with outside suppliers.



  • Requires a bachelor’s degree, preferably in an associated area and work experience in a related field.
  • Has knowledge specific to thermoset elastomer molding specifically compression, transfer, and injection molding as well as associated processes in this field including cryogenic de-flashing
  • Ability to review product and tooling drawings and identify areas of concern and recommend changes. Solidworks or equivalent skills preferred.
  • Effective communication skills with peers, production employees, management and customers.
  • Demonstrate curiosity to investigate and understand abnormalities in process leading to effective solutions and improvements.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to utilize data to reach conclusions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
