Goodwill TalentBridge, along with our client, is currently recruiting for a Operative Services Assistant to work in the Wauwatosa, WI area.

SUMMARY:

Supports patient care by providing a clean and safe environment in the Operating Rooms. Assists in daily activities of surgical services including, but not limited to the operating room, special procedure rooms, PACU, and day surgery. Duties include housekeeping, instrument processing, inventory and stocking duties, and cleaning and maintenance of Operating Room equipment. Additionally, assists patients, family members and/or visitors with movement from inpatient floors and throughout surgical services.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Maintains positive customer service relations with patient care staff, patient families and other members of the organization
  • Executes the service standards outline by Service Excellence the Blue Kids way and adheres to the operating room standards and expectations.
  • Provides clean and safe environment for patient care by following OR policy and paying particular attention to aseptic and sterile environments.
  • Handles materials, cleans patient care equipment, and performs services in strict conformance to aseptic, sterile and/or isolation techniques.
  • Understands and satisfies the supply and equipment needs of the patient.
  • Maintains department supplies and equipment needed for patient care. Ensures equipment and supplies are stored appropriately and restocks deficiencies as needed. Cleans equipment and supplies after use. Reports any deficiencies or unsafe equipment to the Operative Coordinator or Charge Nurse immediately.
  • Assembles case stock, instruments and equipment for scheduled and emergency cases and reports missing supplies, instruments and equipment promptly to the nurse involved in the case.
  • Transports inpatients/visitors throughout Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, specifically surrounding their stay within surgical services and the inpatient floor. It is a requirement to provide immediate aid to patients in medical crisis during transport and notify the nearest nursing or medical staff personnel for assistance. Transport methods include stretchers, adult beds and cribs.
  • Access transport device requests and print patient identification including, but not limited to, name bands, blood bands, and patient labels
  • Checks and responds to e-mail daily when working; uses Intranet site as a source for organizational information; utilizes pagers, voceras and phones for work purposes.
  • Transports lab specimens, x-rays and performs other duties as required and necessary.
  • May be asked to perform tasks in a sterile environment during surgical procedures.
  • Identifies and segregates regulated waste and recyclables from general waste.

Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Requires the level of technical knowledge normally acquired through completion of high school.
  • CPR certification obtained within 6 months of hire - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required.
  • Requires analytical skills in order to identify problems, troubleshoot and find the most efficient solutions to problems.
  • Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact courteously and tactfully with patients, parents/families and members of the health care team
  • Ability to prioritize duties regarding patient transport, operating suite needs, and room turnover

SCHEDULE:

  • First Shift: Monday - Friday
  • Available for on-call rotation during off hours (including weekends and holidays).
  • Takes call during off shifts and holidays as part of the normal department on-call practices
  • Maintains, or makes arrangement for a response time to the hospital of 30 minutes when on call.
  • Contract to Hire

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Provides services in a setting where there is potential for exposure to blood and other high risk body fluids, communicable diseases and hazardous materials, chemicals, and waste.
  • Exposure to cleaning solvents and chemical odors.
